About Martha

I was born in Colombia and have lived in Bogotá, New Orleans, Dallas, Brussels, and New York City, before settling in San Francisco.

As an emerging photographer, I focus primarily on self-portraiture, capturing introspective narratives with my camera and iPhone.

When I’m not taking photos, I spend most of my time as an Artist Success Coach, dedicated to empowering fellow visual artists with the tools and mindset to thrive creatively and professionally.

The Garden Maidens

The images on this website are my latest body of work. The Garden Maidens are not photographs I intended to create; they simply appeared. Reflections of my face materialize on the window of my apartment, which overlooks a garden with foliage and an avocado tree. Yet, these images don’t feel like me. They are mysterious, almost mythical figures peeking through the leaves, as if to say, “Hello, we exist!”

For the past 15 years, these ethereal reflections have emerged during everyday moments—while I work, eat breakfast, or relax on my sofa. When sunlight hits the windows of the building across from me, it illuminates my face, casting a reflection on the glass. Now, I’ve learned to anticipate their arrival. On sunny days, at certain times, I know the Garden Maidens will appear. So I wait for them. When the beam of light shows up I get under it and some version of myself appears on the window.

In The Maidens, I embrace the serendipity of light and nature to capture portraits that transcend identity and time. These reflections, born from the dance between sunlight, garden, and glass, uncover the layered, multifaceted nature of the self, blurring the lines between reality and myth.
